Dr. William (Bill) Greenwalt, Senior Fellow at the American Enterprise Institute
Event Description
Since the end of the Cold War the US and its allies maintained a minimalist defense unique industrial base that pursued a small number of exquisite systems and capabilities. As the global security situation has deteriorated these industrial policies are no longer sustainable. The US and its allies need to not only adapt to the rapidly evolving landscape of technological innovations (e.g., harnessing commercial innovation, AI integration, and agile development in defense systems), but also produce existing systems in far greater quantities than were previously contemplated. What needs to be done to pursue these potentially conflicting objectives and how will that impact the industrial base.
